Harvey Weinstein was convicted by a jury of two counts and acquitted on the more serious charge involving predatory behaviour. As to be expected his trial lawyers have announced that they will mount an appeal in the hope that an appeal court will agree with the defence that the evidence upon which he was convicted was at best flimsy and could not support a finding of guilt.
Appeal Other Grounds
There will be other grounds of appeal which have not been expressly stated by his lawyers however they did cite bias in one of the jurors.
The defence teams concern about the verdicts were expressed by Donna Rotunno the lead lawyer for the defence when she said…
“that the justice system relies on the rights of citizens to due process and the presumption of innocence.” She went on to say “
…if this notion is to just start believing people just because they make claims, I think that challenges the criminal justice system as we know it and I think for anybody charged in these types of crimes, that’s a scary proposition.”
